Northwest Imperial Oatmeal Porter Release !!!!!!!!!!!

Northwest Imperial Oatmeal Porter.

This past February 13th on a beautiful Northwest Saturday in Stevenson,Washington I had the pleasure and honor to participate in the collaborative brew of this year's Sasquatch Legacy Brew for the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation.
I collaborated on the recipe with Evan Taylor of Montana Brewing Company. Head Brewer Jacob Leonard of Walking Man Brewing , a previous Falconer Scholarship recipient and Sasquatch Legacy brewer guided the brew day and the Brew Crew at Walking Man Brewing were fantastic hosts, thank you Bob Craig. In addition to brewing with some talented brewers I also got to sample some amazing Northwest beer. That weekend I visited Double Mountain Brewery in Hood River, OR and Everybody's Brewing in White Salmon,WA. The Gorge has some excellent beer and is a must visit it is a beautiful place. Evan and I also got a chance to visit with Chad Kennedy head brewer at Laurelwood Brewing in Portland on the Friday before heading to Stevenson. We were able to get bombers of the freshly released Organic Espresso Stout.

That's a little background on the trip and brewing experience which was amazing. I have some recipe information and tasting notes from Jacob below. The release is tomorrow at the Horse Brass Pub in Portland, please do check it out if you can. It's great beer for a great cause.

8.5% ABV
90 IBU's

Great Western NW Pale Ale, Munich, Light Crystal, English Chocolate malts, & flaked oats. The Malt was donated by Great Western Malting Co.

The hops are all NW varieties, donated by Hop Union. Columbus, Centennial, Northern Brewer, and the new Citra hops were all used in the kettle. We dry-hopped with three pounds each of Citra, Centennial, and Northern Brewer.

"The Northwest Imperial Oatmeal Porter smells like sweet citrus hops, with some dank pine, and dark rich chocolate. The taste is very smooth and creamy with balance of chocolate and sweet malt, but with an assertive bitterness and hop flavor. The hops and the chocolate malt stay on the tongue and make you want to drink more." (Jacob Leonard, Walking Man Brewing).
